My mom is playing with Pugsley which gives me the chance for an update!

The main issue i have so far is that Pugsley does not like his cage. I placed one of my t-shirts in there so he would have comfort from my scent but it doesn't seem to have an effect. I place him inside, shut the door and within 10 seconds he seriously starts to cry for me to let him out so last night he had to sleep on my bed. Does anyone have any ideas as to how i can make him stay in his cage and not cry?

As for toilet training only one accident when he peed on the kitchen floor (tiled anyway) last night, but generally he is doing exactly as the breeder advised. As soon as he has a meal i take him into the garden and so long as i ignore him he eventually gets bored and does his business.

The only other gripe is that as i he is only 7 weeks old he hasn't fully learned bite inhibition. I think he's probing me at the moment to see how much i can take, but i think as long as i say NO firmly he seems to be getting the message that it's not nice to bite daddy :O)

First, let me say Pugsley is adorable! I have a pug-boy named Pugsley too, he fawn and is 10 years old now. I work in Pug Rescue here in the states as well.

7 weeks old is really young to be taken away from the mother, they should not really be weaned until they are 10 weeks of age ;-( The poor baby will need some extra time and love and caring to adjust. You can try putting a battery run alarm clock in his crate wrap it in a towel and the ticking noise will soth him as it will remind him of the heartbeat of his mother and littermates.

Of course, this didn't work for me and I could not handle the tortured, blood curdled cries my boy let out so I let my pugsley in the bed the first night and he has been there ever since ;-)

I hope you enjoy your little mate. Drop us a line if you ever need any pug-advice!

I am with Lori, my little Rogue managed to stay in her crate at night for all of about 2 hours then I couldn't take it any more, now she sleeps on my legs (or right beside my head on the pillow). She is now 6 months old and spoiled rotten, I don't suggest you do that, she has me wrapped around her finger. I have heard that leaving music playing or the TV on helps them adjust. Good luck with the little one, what a gorgeous dog, looks just like Rogue at the age.
